Get Your Wings Back

A Personal Note from Dr. Fliegel
Helping You Get Your Wings Back
The name Fliegel traces its roots to the German word Flügel, meaning “wing.” It is a connection that has taken on a special meaning in the way I think about orthopaedic care.
For me, that idea started long before I became an orthopaedic surgeon.
Growing up, I was the typical "injury prone" athlete. I spent enough time in the orthopaedic office that my surgeons and I were on a first name basis. Injuries meant time away from my teammates and from the sports I loved. But each time, there was an orthopaedic surgeon who helped guide me through recovery and ultimately got me back on the field.
Those experiences stayed with me. From a young age, I knew I wanted to become the person who could do the same for someone else. I wanted to help athletes overcome an injury, regain their confidence, and experience that feeling of getting back in the game.
Years later, the meaning behind my name and the reason I chose this profession came together in a simple idea:
Helping you get your wings back.
Today, that purpose extends far beyond competitive athletes.
When you are injured, you do not just lose strength, motion, or the ability to compete. You can lose a piece of your independence, your routine, and sometimes even part of what makes you feel like yourself.
For one person, getting their wings back might mean returning to the field for one more season. For another, it might mean getting back on the golf course, lifting weights again, throwing a ball with their kids, or simply waking up and moving through the day without pain holding them back.
That is why I believe successful treatment starts by understanding not only what hurts, but what matters to you.
My role is to help you find the best path forward, whether that involves rehabilitation, nonoperative treatment, or surgery, and to be there throughout the process of getting you back to the life you want to live.
Because treating an injury is only part of the job.
The real goal is restoring your ability to move, perform, and live with confidence.
To get you back to what you love.
To get you back to being you.
To help you get your wings back.
